Tulsa SharePoint Interest Group

Posted on

Monday evening I had the pleasure of attending a SharePoint Interest Group meeting in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The group is organized by BJ Pohl and, although still small and growing, has a good core of highly enthusiastic SharePointers.  In a stroke of luck my good friend Jonathan Swartz, Information Worker Partner Technology Specialist at Microsoft, and Brian Evans, Strategic Engagement Manager, were in Tulsa to talk about SharePoint licensing and product positioning.

The group was very interactive, asking a lot of questions and getting so much information from Jonathan and Brian that they only made it about halfway through their slide deck.  At the end they had a few giveaways, with Jonathan throwing some tough trivia questions at the audience (Where was Microsoft first formed?  Answer: Albequerque, New Mexico.  How many products are in the Office Suite?  Answer: Fifteen).

Afterwards, a number of us went out to a local pub and continued the conversation over a few pints of beer (and, of course, a requisite glass of Scotch – Glenfiddich 15 year old Solera Reserve, if you must know).  I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Tulsa group.  It’s exciting to see the seeds of another SharePoint community taking root in Middle America.  BJ does a great job organizing the events and they are definitely on the right track.  If you are in or near the Tulsa area I recommend you stop by for a visit; they meet on the second Monday of every month.
