SharePoint.Performance: Retrieving List Data, Part Deux

Posted on

Building on the earlier work done by Steve Peschka, Waldek Mastykarz has written a post regarding the use of the Content by Query Web Part versus custom data aggregation methods.  His results show completely different metrics for the PortalSiteMaprovider than Steve’s, which is a bit surprising (and contrary to some of our own, less empirical, customer evidence), and I would like to see a similar battery of tests run with full rendered output (XSL transformations and all) against lists with over 100k items.  Go give it a read and fix up those underperforming web parts right away.

P.S. – I’m working on data points for a similar article using LINQ which I’ll post sometime before TechEd if I can ever find a few hours to finish the code 🙂
