Site Columns, Content Types, and Curly Braces

This actually came up a while back during a training course on MOSS customization and branding but I was reminded of it while doing the mind-numbing work of manually creating site column and content type features for a client.  When you assign a GUID to a Feature it is up to you whether or not […]

The folks from Mondosoft are putting on an Ontolica Search Workshop here in Dallas on September 18th.  Ontolica is one of my favorite third-party SharePoint add-ons (along with Colligo Contributor and BDC MetaMan).  If you need some extra horsepower in your portal search then be sure to check out what Ontolica has to offer.   […]

Quick Tip on Enumerating Group Permissions

A workflow I designed for a client was doing something very simple – enumerating the members of a publishing approval group and displaying the user names on the workflow initiation form (which happened to be an ASPX page) – when all of a sudden content authors could no longer initiate the workflow.  Each attempt was […]

Mapping Document Libraries in Windows Vista

Well here’s one that threw me for a loop.  I was trying to do something very simple – map a network drive to a SharePoint document library to share a OneNote notebook.  Should be easy, right?  Well, it would have been if the WSS site wasn’t set to use Basic Authentication.  Naturally, Vista gave me […]

Getting Associated Workflows in the SharePoint Object Model

Sean Skinner just posted a tip on getting all the workflows associated with a list using the Object Model.  This is handy as selecting ‘Workflows’ from the drop-down, then selecting the workflow from the list of associated workflows is a bit cumbersome.  Much easier to create a link directly to the workflow you want.  Check […]

The ‘P’ in ‘SharePoint’ Stands for ‘Platform’

Last week we had a chance to do a friend a favor and talk to a university IT staff about SharePoint – what it is, what it does, and why they need it (and yes, just for Adam, the meeting started with them asking ‘What Is SharePoint?’).  Our standard answer goes something like "SharePoint is […]
